America Supporting Americans
A Letter from Major Tim Meadors, US Army
Linda and Steve,
I am busy typing away thank you notes to all the key proponents from Operation Eagle Visit. I was personally overwhelmed with all the support and kindness from San Mateo, Hillsborough, and Burlingame. I can only surmise the events during the Memorial Day Weekend were similar to the celebrations thrown by the Romans, Native Americans, Greeks and other great societies to welcome home their warriors while honoring their service and sacrifice.
I continue to call your passion a "movement" and once again witnessed the far reaching impact. Periodically during the weekend I noticed both of you seemed extremely joyful to know that you are helping to fuel something great. Your joy is well-deserved and please know the second and third order effects of your work continue to echo across the nation.
Linda, you truly are an American hero and a great patriot. You may have never sludged through the mud of combat or been exposed to prolonged periods of hostile fire, but your love for this country is evident. However, your dedication to America's warriors exemplifies the meaning of patriotism and continues to honor your brother and all who serve.
Thank you again.
MG Hodges gave me the attached article from today's USA Today. This is possibly an opportunity for you to expand your movement. Imagine if local cities and towns, youth sport teams, and others held events to honor young men and women prior to their departure to basic training or one of the Service Academies. In addition to showering the troops with support while they are engaged in combat, this may be an opportunity to shower the young volunteers before they cross the line and join the ranks of the military.
Please know you are constantly in our thoughts and I look forward to the next time we can "rendezvous" and share in the thrill of Americans displaying their support for America's warriors.
